Expression of Interest: Provision of Advice for Scrutiny of Bills and Subordinate Legislation
Department of the Legislative Assembly
Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified lawyers and academics to provide advice for Legislative Assembly committees to assist their consideration of whether Bills and subordinate legislation have sufficient regard to the rights and liberties of individuals and the institution of Parliament in accordance with Sessional Orders 13(4)(c) and 14(2)(g) (see https://parliament.nt.gov.au/business/standing-and-sessional-orders).
The need for such advice is dependent on the number and nature of Bills referred to committees and the amount of subordinate legislation tabled. The advice will be required within strict deadlines dependent on the Assembly’s sitting pattern, although usually not less than within three weeks of the request. The Department may establish a small panel of advisers to refer matters to depending on each advisor’s availability and area of expertise. Remuneration would be on an agreed hourly rate.
