Law Society Northern Territory welcomes new Solicitor-General for the Northern Territory
Law Society Northern Territory (“Society”) welcomes the announcement that Nikolai Christrup SC will succeed Sonia Brownhill SC as the Solicitor-General for the Northern Territory.
Mr Christrup’s appointment continues the now well established practice of the appointment of local lawyers to senior and leadership roles in the legal profession. Society President Maria Savvas said, “ The Society has been a long-term supporter of local appointments and Mr Christrup, a long term Territorian and graduate from the Territory’s University, is further evidence of the depth and quality of the local legal profession.”
Mr Christrup commenced practice as a solicitor in 1999 before being called to the Bar in 2004 and being appointed as Senior Counsel in 2018. Mr Christrup’s areas of practice have been wide ranging including administrative and public law, constitutional law, equity, trusts and trade practices and he is a highly skilled advocate. Having spent his entire working career in the Northern Territory makes him ideally highly suited to take on the role of Solicitor-General.
Ms Savvas said, “ The Society is confident that Mr Christrup will make a significant contribution in the role of Solicitor-General and competently fulfil all of the important functions that flow from such an important position within the legal profession.”
On behalf of the legal profession of the Northern Territory, the Society congratulates Mr Christrup on his
